Can Non-Destructive Digging limit the risks of asbestos exposure?

Non-destructive digging (NDD) is a game-changing type of excavation that has transformed the construction industry.

NDD involves advanced vacuum trucks that use high-pressure water to break through soil and transport debris with unmatched accuracy, affordability, and efficiency. It can also be used on various surfaces, including areas with poor accessibility, and it can also minimize damages to underground services.

However, despite the game changing WHS controls that NDD offers, a new challenge has emerged. Work Health and Safety Regulation prohibits the use of high-pressure water spray on materials containing asbestos, which can pose a severe safety risk.

Researching asbestos controls in NDD

Researchers have found a way to overcome this significant challenge. They have discovered that NDD can be performed safely on certain asbestos-contaminated soils using specific controls and safety procedures.

We have partnered with Western Sydney University in ongoing research where more exciting developments are expected to emerge as scientists work to identify the safest and most effective safety procedures for the construction industry.

This breakthrough has the potential to transform the industry, opening new possibilities for the use of NDD in previously restricted sites.
